The practices and innovations that have over time coalesced under the rubric of Open Science have their origins in fragmented, community-driven initiatives that have sought to improve the reproducibility, accessibility, and impact of virtually every component of scientific workflows. Despite the rise of organized Open Science movements internationally, there remain many misconceptions about what open science is, what it isn't, its collective benefit, and the individual researcher's incentive for adopting open workflows.
