This talk gives an overview of the Human Brain Project, a 10-year endeavour putting in place a cutting-edge research infrastructure that will allow scientific and industrial researchers to advance our knowledge in the fields of neuroscience, computing, and brain-related medicine.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 24:52
Speaker: : Katrin Amunts

This lecture gives an introduction to the European Academy of Neurology, its recent achievements and ambitions.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 21:57
Speaker: : Paul Boon

This lecture explains the concept of federated analysis in the context of medical data, associated challenges. The lecture also presents an example of hospital federations via the Medical Informatics Platform.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 19:15
Speaker: : Yannis Ioannidis

This lesson is an overview of transcriptomics, from fundamental concepts of the central dogma and RNA sequencing at the single-cell level, to how genetic expression underlies diversity in cell phenotypes.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 1:29:08

This lesson breaks down the principles of Bayesian inference and how it relates to cognitive processes and functions like learning and perception. It is then explained how cognitive models can be built using Bayesian statistics in order to investigate how our brains interface with their environment.

This lesson corresponds to slides 1-64 in the PDF below.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 1:28:14

In this lecture, you will learn about current methods, approaches, and challenges to studying human neuroanatomy, particularly through the lense of neuroimaging data such as fMRI and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 1:35:14
Speaker: : Matt Glasser

This lecture describes how to build research workflows, including a demonstrate using DataJoint Elements to build data pipelines.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 47:00
Speaker: : Dimitri Yatsenko

This lesson describes spike timing-dependent plasticity (STDP), a biological process that adjusts the strength of connections between neurons in the brain, and how one can implement or mimic this process in a computational model. You will also find links for practical exercises at the bottom of this page.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 12:50
Speaker: : Dan Goodman

In this lesson, you will learn about some of the many methods to train spiking neural networks (SNNs) with either no attempt to use gradients, or only use gradients in a limited or constrained way.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 5:14
Speaker: : Dan Goodman

In this lesson, you will learn how to train spiking neural networks (SNNs) with a surrogate gradient method.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 11:23
Speaker: : Dan Goodman

As the previous lesson of this course described how researchers acquire neural data, this lesson will discuss how to go about interpreting and analysing the data.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 9:24
Speaker: : Marcus Ghosh

In this lesson, you will hear about some of the open issues in the field of neuroscience, as well as a discussion about whether neuroscience works, and how can we know?

Along the example of a patient with bi-temporal epilepsy, we show step by step how to develop a Virtual Epileptic Patient (VEP) brain model and integrate patient-specific information such as brain connectivity, epileptogenic zone and MRI lesions. The patient's brain network model is then evaluated via simulation, data fitting and mathematical analysis. This lecture demonstrates how to develop novel personalized strategies towards therapy and intervention using TVB.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 48:57
Speaker: : Julie Courtiol

This lecture focuses on higher-level simulation scenarios using stimulation protocols. We demonstrate how to build stimulation patterns in TVB, and use them in a simulation to induced activity dissipating into experimentally known resting-state networks in human and mouse brain, a well as to obtain EEG recordings reproducing empirical findings of other researchers.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 47:14
Speaker: : Andreas Spiegler

This lesson provides an overview of Jupyter notebooks, Jupyter lab, and Binder, as well as their applications within the field of neuroimaging, particularly when it comes to the writing phase of your research.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
Duration: 50:28
Speaker: : Elizabeth DuPre

This lesson introduces population models and the phase plane, and is part of the The Virtual Brain (TVB) Node 10 Series, a 4-day workshop dedicated to learning about the full brain simulation platform TVB, as well as brain imaging, brain simulation, personalised brain models, and TVB use cases.

Difficulty level: Intermediate
